Gambler Frequently Asked Questions...
How much do your summer fishing trips cost?
The half day fluke trips cost $40 for adults, $35 for seniors,
and $25 for children under 12. If you make the morning trip and
return for the afternoon fluke trip on the same day, you will receive
a 50% discount for the second trip.
Half night bluefish trips leave at 7:30 every Friday and Saturday
night. The trip costs $54 for adults, $49 for seniors, and $35 for
children under 12. You can receive a discount on this trip if you
have made a fluke-fishing trip with us on the same day.
Remember that groups of 10 or more people will receive a discount
and that military discounts are available as well! Prices are subject
to change due to recent fluctuating fuel, bait, and equipment costs.
Do I need reservations?
You do not need reservations for our half day fluke trips and our
night bluefish trips. It is suggested that you arrive at least a
half hour before a trip’s departure. If you are bringing out
a group, please call us in advance so we can set up poles for your
party before-hand. Reservations ARE required for our offshore tuna
trips and many of our other offshore winter trips.
Is your boat available for charters?
In the summer, during the day, we are generally not available for
charters since we have open-boat fishing every day. You can still
bring groups of people on our open-boat fishing trips. If you would
like to schedule a charter during a weeknight or in the fall, however,
please contact Captain Bob [link to email address: captbogan@aol.com]
What kinds of species do you catch onboard?
During the daily summer fluke trips, we target fluke and sea bass
mostly. During bluefish trips, we catch bluefish and striped bass.
On these trips, we also catch many other species of fish, some of
them tasty and some that are “junk fish” that live to
see another day.
Can I keep what I catch?
Of course - as long as the fish meet government regulations. Fluke
fish need to be 18-inches long to keep, and each passenger is allowed
to keep 8 of these fish per day. Sea bass need to be 12-inches long
to keep. Bluefish do not have a size limit, but each passenger is
allowed to keep 15 of these fish per day.
What do I do with the fish I can keep?
First, we’ll put the fish in a bucket of water or a cooler
that you have provided for the remainder of the trip. At the end
of the trip, the deck hands will fillet your catch for you.
What is the “daily pool” and the “monthly derby”?
During each fluke trip, you can pay an extra $2 to be in the daily
pool. The person with the biggest fluke at the end of the trip wins
all of the pool money collected onboard.
For $1, you can join the monthly derby. If you catch the biggest
fluke of the month, you win all of the derby money collected. That’s
a lot of money by the end of the month!
How far offshore do you fish?
During our half-day fluke trips, we fish anywhere from 1-7 miles
off the beach, depending on water temperatures, tides, etc. Our
bluefish trips will sometimes take you out farther.
What should I bring?
Make sure to bring the proper clothing for being offshore. While
it can be very hot on the boat during the summer, it is sometimes
about 10 degrees cooler on the ocean than it is inland, so be prepared
with layers of clothing! You are allowed to bring a cooler for your
fish and any food you would like. You can bring your own fishing
pole and tackle, but if you need a fishing pole, can rent one onboard
for $5. Bait is provided for you, free of charge. Sunscreen and
a camera are always suggested!
Is alcohol permitted onboard?
No hard liquor is allowed on the boat, but passengers can bring
a small amount of beer or malt beverages on the trip.
Can I buy food onboard?
On most days, our galley can provide coffee, snacks, sodas and
water, freshly cooked breakfast sandwiches and hot dogs to our hungry
customers.
Are there restrooms onboard?
Yes – we have separate men’s and women’s accommodations.
Where do I park?
There is plenty of parking at our dock and is free to all passengers.
What if I’ve never fished before?
Our friendly crew will be more than happy to teach first-timers
or novice anglers the proper fishing techniques and how to use their
fishing equipment!
